Classes and Activities

Indianapolis Rowing Center offers many individual classes open to members and the general public alike.  A number of other events occur at the boathouse on a regular basis.  All upcoming events are listed below.

    Learn-to-Row (LTR) is an introductory class for adults (or parent/child) to the sport of rowing.  Over the course of 6 hours, IRC coaches, with the help of volunteers, will teach you proper rowing technique, inside and on the water, as well as educate you on rowing terminology, safety and teamwork.

    The focus will be in eight person (sweep) boats.  There will be the opportunity to scull in a single person boat Saturday mornings after you have completed the class (free for the remainder of the month).  

    Learn to Row graduates will also be invited to attend Adult Rowing sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays (6:15pm) for free, for the remainder of the month.

    The Junior Summer Rowing - With Competition offering is for junior rowers that wish to row and compete this summer. Rowing will be concurrent with the OAAR program weekdays 6pm to 8pm.  The focus will be a balance of technical rowing in small boats: singles, doubles, pairs, and fours and fitness and conditioning.  Rowers will do two erg sessions a week followed by technical rowing on the water and will be given additional conditioning workouts to be done independently.

    This program will begin June 13 and run through August 5th.  

    Competition entries will be dependent upon participation.  We will consider going to the following regattas:

    Chicago Sprints, Chicago, IL: July 9 - 10

    Club Nationals, Cincinnati, OH: July 13 - 17

    Canadian Henley, St. Catherine's Ontario: Aug 2 - 7

    The Indianapolis Rowing OAAR offering is for collegiate, open and masters AA rowers.  Rowing will be weekdays 6pm to 8pm.  The focus will be a balance of technical rowing in small boats: singles, doubles, pairs, and fours and fitness and conditioning.  Rowers will do two erg sessions a week followed by technical rowing on the water and will be given additional conditioning workouts to be done independently. Our goal is to make sure that collegiate athletes return to campus in the fall with PR times on the 2k and 6k tests.

    This program will begin June 13 and run through August 5th.  

    Competition entries will be dependent upon participation.  We will consider going to the following regattas:

    Chicago Sprints, Chicago, IL: July 9 - 10

    Club Nationals, Cincinnati, OH: July 13 - 17

    Canadian Henley, St. Catherine's Ontario: Aug 2 - 7

    Session 1 of Novice Junior Summer Rowing will be held from 4:00pm to 6:00pm weekdays starting June 13th and running through July 1st.  Students will get to learn the fundamentals of both sweep rowing in our 8 person shells and sculling in our training singles.

    The Junior Summer Rowing - No Competition offering is for junior rowers that wish to row this summer but do not wish to compete.  Rowing will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6pm to 8pm.  Focus will be on technical rowing in small boats: singles, doubles, pairs, and fours as well as on fitness and conditioning.  There will be some steady state style workouts on the erg.

    Junior summer rowing will begin June 27 and run through August 5th.
